1. Chamomile Tea:

Chamomile has anti spasmodic and sedative properties that help to relieve intestinal cramping and induce relaxation.


Take a teaspoon of chamomile flowers and place them in a cup. Fill the cup with boiling water and cover it.
Allow it sit for about 10 – 15 minutes and strain the tea. Give it to your baby by pouring the tea in a bottle unless and until the tea is warm or at room temperature. A nursing mother can also drink this tea unless she is allergic to pollens. If convenient, you can use pre-packed chamomile tea bags instead of flowers.
Repeat this once or twice a day till the baby get relief from colic problem.

2. Soy Products:

Sometimes, the protein found in cow’s milk is the culprit for the colic problem. This protein is also found in many baby formulas containing dairy and in the milk of breastfeeding mothers. Research says that there will be an improvement in colic after eliminating the dairy products from your baby’s’ diet. So, try to eliminate the dairy products for 2 weeks and in that place of dairy, you and your baby switch to soy products (if you’re breast feeding) and you’ll notice the improvement in 3 – 4 days.

3. Running Water:

Water is one of the simplest techniques to calm your baby. Make them to hear the water sound that can help to soothe themselves.


Take a bowl and place it in the sink. Now turn on the faucet and hold the baby next to the sink. This process helps them to hear the water cascading into bowl. If your kitchen sink is not producing the enough volume to hear the sound then you can try bathroom sink, as this may accentuate the soothing sounds of water or place a lukewarm (and not hot) water bottle against the baby’s stomach to get soothing effect to them and get relief from the colic.

4. Mint:

Mint contains antispasmodic properties that help to reduce the intestinal spasms in infants those face this colic problems.


Take a teaspoon of dried mint herb and place it in a cup. Now fill the cup with boiling water and cover this cup. Steep it for about 10 – 15 minutes and then strain the tea. Feed it to your baby by pouring this tea into their bottle, when it is warm. Even nursing mothers may also drink a cup of mint tea to get relief to their babies. Continue taking or feeding this until your babies get rid of this colic problem.

5. Basil:

Basil is an aromatic herb that has large amounts of eugenol that contains antispasmodic and sedative properties which helps in eradicating the problem.


Take a teaspoon of dried basil leaves and place it in a cup.Take a teaspoon of dried basil leaves and place it in a cup. Then add cup full of boiling water and cover it. Steep it for about 10 – 15 minutes and strain the tea. While the tea is warm or at room temperature then give it to your infants in a bottle. Repeat this regularly until your baby gets relief from this colic problem.


Peppermint flavored water is a century aged remedy used to treat colic. It contains an active ingredient called the calcium channel blocker that helps to ease the intestinal distress, a common problem associated with colic.


Take a peppermint stick and soak it in water for few minutes. Remember that many sticks contain sugar and choose the good one to make tea. Strain the tea and fed this to your baby by pouring it in a bottle.
Also a nursing woman can drink this tea regularly. But make sure that you never use peppermint oil to make the tea as it is too strong for the baby.Systemize the drinking process to rid colic problem completely.

7. Massage:

Massage the baby’s stomach in clockwise direction and curl the knees towards the stomach in a gently manner will surely gives relief. As the babies will swallow a lot of air during their cry so a gentle massage helps to release the gas that trapped in their stomach. Or else bathing the child in warm water will also works well in treating the colic.

8. Burp:

Generally infants who are bottle fed will swallow a lot of air, so it’s important for your baby to burp after feeding them. Most of the parents have hard time getting their infants to burp and as a result, gas gets trapped and causes discomfort. To get rid of such problems, you can find out the method of burping which works best for your baby to relieve from intestinal problems.

9. Gripe water:

Gripe water is one of the best remedies used in all over the world to treat the baby’ stomach gas problems and other intestinal problems.


Grape water is an herbal infusion made up of several herbs like chamomile, dill, fennel, peppermint, ginger and caraway. All these herbs help to give relief from the stomach gas and other intestinal problems. Gripe water or colic drops are easily available at pharmacies so you can buy them and use it to get relief from the colic. You can make this recipe at home and use them to get fend off the problem.

10. Other Herbal Remedies:

You can also use other herbal remedies that are listed below by consulting your pediatrician and know the extract dosage.

Fennel: helps to relieve cramping and intestinal spasms

Caraway: helps to treat symptoms like indigestion, stomach gas and reflux

Ginger: helps to treat nausea, muscle spasms and encourages smooth digestion.

Aloe Vera: helps to relieve bloating related to gas.

Lemon Balm: related to mint family, helps to soothe, relaxes, encourages sleep and helps to relieve gas pains.

Blackthorn: encourages regularity of bowel movement and ease cramps

Vegetable Charcoal: helps to eliminate body toxins and absorb gas.
