Abdominal pain in kids isn’t an unusual phenomenon. It is usually caused due a variety of factors such as indigestible or spoilt food, stress, dietary issues and the likes. Most of the time, these can be cured by home made remedies as opposed to running to the doctor everytime.

1. Water

Drinking eight glasses of water a day is a remedy that has been brought down from centuries and for good reason. Drinking enough water keeps the body hydrated and helps with easy bowel movements, which is usually the problem faced by most children. Encourage your child to drink water as opposed to soda and other aerated drinks as much as possible, for obvious health and obesity related reasons.

2. Outdoor activities

Your child may be complaining of tummy pain but push them to get out of bed and get some exercise. Keep it moderate, exercises such as walking or mild running will do the trick. It helps in movement of food and digestion, helping avoid constipation. Avoid activities such as monkeybars or twirling that are focused mainly on the abdomen.

3. Yoghurt

For any type of abdominal cramps, yoghurt is the remedy. It helps in keeping the stomach cool and helps in fighting diarrhea. The intestines are known to accomodate good bacteria that help in digestion and constant diarrhea flushes out these catalysts. Yoghurt helps in regaining this bacteria and regulate digestion.

4. Avoid spice

In cases of abdominal tension, avoid food with a lot of spice or sauces. Stick to bland foods such as oatmeal, pasta etc as it causes less irritation. Bland food is also more easily digested than spicy food with a lot of seasoning. Including more bland food will help reduce vomiting and improve digestion.

5. Heat it up

No, not your child. Pick up the closest hot water bottle and fill it with boiling hot water. Wrap it in a cloth and put it on the area of the stomach that’s clearly causing your child immense amounts of distress. When you apply that amount of heat to the body, it increases greatly the blood rush to the skin, which is why it turns red. On the inside, the blood rush helps cure a majority of the pain your child is feeling.

6. Ginger

This ingredient is found in almost every Indian household so this shouldn’t be hard. Ginger contains gingerol, which is an extremely useful antioxidant that greatly reduces discomfort and nausea. It could be in the form of ginger ale, ginger tea, or whatever works. Ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties that neutralize stomach acids and help secrete digestive juices.

7. Chamomile tea

This flavour also contains anti- inflammatory properties that help with stomach cramps. It also happens to ease the abdominal muscles of the upper digestive tract which eases contractions. This relieves tummy cramps and abdominal discomfort.
