Did you know that roughly 4% of women in the United States are pregnant right now?
That percentage doesn’t seem too big, but hear us out. This means that according to the American Pregnancy Association, we have over 12 million pregnant ladies at any given moment.
If you’re one those women, a lot of things are probably going through your head now, but the main one (and the most obvious one of course) is – what are we going to do now?
And you’re probably so full of excitement that you’ll probably forget do to certain things. But don’t worry; because we’re here to share a few things you should do as soon as you discover you’re pregnant.
So here are just five simple things every future mother should take care of…
1. Don’t Tell Anyone About It Until You’re Past the First Trimester
Ok, you should definitely tell your husband and immediate family members about it, but you shouldn’t tell the whole world about it until after your first trimester is over. One of the biggest fears most women have is going back to their friends and telling that something’s happened if they have a miscarriage.
During the first three months of a pregnancy, the baby is in the most vulnerable state, but after that, the chance of a miscarriage drops to around 10%. Therefore, just to be safe, keep the good news for yourself during the first twelve weeks, and after that, feel free to spread them.
2. Find a Good Workout Plan Early On and Stick With It
If you’re a fitness enthusiast, that’s great, because exercise is actually encouraged during pregnancy. However, you’ll need to talk to your doctor first before you continue working out. Simply put, there are some exercises you should alter (or avoid altogether) for the sake of your pregnancy.
That’s why you need to look into pregnancy-safe exercises, and talk to your doctor about them before you start working out. For instance, you have a lot of great stretching exercises and easy workout plans in the famous What to Expect When You’re Expecting book, so you should give it a go.
3. You Also Need to Adjust Your Eating Habits
This goes hand in hand with your exercising habits, because having a baby also means switching a couple of things around in your diet. You need to realize that your body will be working additionally to provide your unborn child with all of the vitamins and nutrients it needs.
So load up on healthy items like avocados, leafy greens and legumes, which are full of folic acid and other nutrients. And also, it would be smart to use a food delivery service like Blue Apron that brings fresh, healthy food at your front door every week.
4. Carefully Research Baby Products Before You Start Shopping
Getting the right stroller or a car seat isn’t as simple as it seems, so you’ll need to do some research before you start spending money. Of course, the best place to look is Amazon, because the site has a wide variety of baby products and they are full of helpful user-reviews.
In addition, it would be smart to talk with some young mothers in your neighborhood who’ve recently bought baby-related items and talk about their likes and dislikes. And once you pick a couple of things, go down to your local mall and see them in person at the store.
5. Buy As Much Lotion As You Can Because You’ll Need It
Last but not least, we have lotion. This might seem a lot less important than some of the other things we have on our list, but hear us out. Once your belly starts to grow and your skin begins to dry, you’ll start feeling an incredible itch all day long.
And that’s not all – if you don’t apply lotion all over your body, you’re going to deal with a lot of strechmarks all over. So as soon as you start noticing that your skin has become dry, go out and buy some Palmer’s Cocoa Butter (or any other brand – it’s up to you) and start rubbing everywhere.
