Your baby’s weight tells you about your child’s health month by month. Make sure that you follow a strict diet plan for your child through the months to achieve a normal weight growth in their vital first year.
1. First month
In the first month after your baby is born, you might see signs of weight loss. It is normal for your baby to experience such symptoms. Ensure that they gain this weight back through regular feedings. On an average, babies grow around 1 ounce or less, per day.
2. Second month
In the second month, your baby has an average growth of 5-7 ounces per week. Some babies might weigh less, so continue to feed him/her breast milk, as it enhances their growth. You can add formula to your baby’s diet.
3. Third month
Continue with feeding your baby breast milk and formula, which will help strengthen your baby’s bone weight. Your baby’s growth should be a steady 6-7 ounces per week, and their weight will start to regularise soon. If your baby is still losing weight, consult your doctor, as it might because of lack of lactation or your baby is feeding the wrong way.
4. Fourth month
In the fourth month, your baby will reduce the average weight that they gain per week. They will begin to gain a steady four ounces or less per week. A steady gain of two ounces per month until the seventh month is normal.
5. Fifth month
Your baby’s weight might almost be double their birth weight. Your baby might be showing signs of readiness to solid foods. It is a gradual change that needs to be monitored keenly. Your baby should be able to hold their head up to a steady position. Their weight should be proportionate through their body.
6. Sixth month
Adding solids with formula and breast milk in your baby’s diet will ensure that they gain at least 3-5 ounces in a week. Make sure that you check your baby’s weight regularly after adding solids into their diet.
7. Seventh month
Your baby should be growing at a normal pace of two pounds per month by this time. If their weight fluctuates below two pounds or more than six pounds, consult your doctor. Your baby should be a healthy, energized baby by now.
8. Eighth month
In the eighth month, with regularised diet, they should be on the verge of three times their birth weight. You can add vegetables, eggs, and fruits along with breastmilk and formula to your child’s diet.
9. Ninth month
In the ninth month, your child’s weight will regularise to a standstill. Ensure that you work towards regularising your child’s weight. Add snacks in between meals. Make sure meals are not too heavy.
10. Tenth month
In the tenth month your baby should be at a perfectly healthy weight with chubby limbs and cheeks. He/she should be able to crawl around the house while attempting to stand. Look towards keeping your baby’s weight at a stable growth.
11. Eleventh month
Your baby should be at triple the weight that they were born with by this time. It is normal to see signs of an attempt to walk. Encourage this.
12. Twelfth month
In the twelfth month, your child should be able to walk and wobble around the house before their first birthday. They should be thrice their birth weight if not slightly over it.
