Here are 6 delicious vegetarian recipes that you can make for your baby now.
1. Cream and Cheese Mashed Potatoes
The easiest and yummiest mashed potatoes are like the ‘go-to’ food for both adults and babies when they’re hungry, but are lazy to cook anything fancy. Simple to make and delicious, mashed potatoes are everyone’s favourite and the reason is pretty obvious. We suggest you try it now!
2 potatoes (medium-sized)
1 tablespoon cream cheese
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons yoghurt
Peel and dice the potatoes into small pieces. Boil them for 15-20 minutes. Once they’re done, transfer them to a bowl and mash them with a spoon until smooth. Add cream cheese to it and stir. Grate the parmesan cheese and add it to the mixture, followed by yoghurt. Mix all the ingredients well and your cream and cheese mashed potatoes are ready.
2. Broccoli with Cheese
1 potato (medium-sized)
Half a cup broccoli florets
Half a cup milk
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Boil the potato until completely soft and tender. Steam the broccoli side by side. Mix them both in a bowl once they’re done and mash or puree them as per your wish. Add butter to the mixture. Garnish with chopped parsley.
3. Tomato Cheesy Rice
Rice is soft in texture and is often fed to babies in its mashed form. This recipe is about adding a little to flavour to this rice to give your baby’s taste buds a good time.
1-2 tablespoons butter
Half a cup rice (can vary as per your consumption)
Melt the butter in a pan and saute the chopped onion a little. Add rice to it and pour boiling water until it is softened enough (8-10 minutes approximately). Take another pan and melt some more butter in it. Add the chopped tomato and cheese until melted completely. Stir the cheesy tomato paste with the cooked rice well and your dish is ready.
4. Carrot Puree
Carrots are rich in Vitamin C and folic acid, making it good for your baby’s metabolism. Here is a recipe of carrot puree that is easy to feed to your baby.
Half a cup milk
Boil some water in a boiler. Put the carrots and milk in a blender and blend until the paste the smooth. Take the paste in a bowl and place it in boiling water for 5-10 minutes until the paste is thick enough. Add ghee to it and let it cook for 2 more minutes. Your carrot puree is ready.
5. Moong Dal Soup
This is an excellent form of protein intake for your baby.
Half a cup of moong dal
A quarter of pumpkin
Cumin seeds (Jeera)
1 tablespoon ghee
1 small piece of ginger (grated)
Soak the moong dal in water for 30 minutes. Take a pressure cooker and put ghee in it. Add the cumin seeds and grated ginger. Keep the flame low and make sure it doesn’t burn. Add the soaked dal to it. Add 2-3 cups water or more if required. Chop the carrots and pumpkin in the meanwhile and add this to the cooker too. Sprinkle salt as per taste and cover the cooker with the lid to let the mixture boil well. After that, mash the soup until completely smooth. Add a little pepper to it. Your moong dal is ready.
6. Vegetable Idlis

Half a cup grated carrot
Half a cup finely chopped onions
1/4th cup grated cabbage
1/4 cup coconut milk (nariyal ka doodh)
Half tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tablespoon grated coconut
Restricted quantity of salt (optional)
Wash and Soak the parboiled rice and urad dal together in enough water in a deep bowl for at least 2 hours. Drain well, add the coconut milk and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste.
Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl, add the carrot, onions, cabbage, cumin seeds, coconut and salt. Mix well. Cover with a lid and keep aside to ferment in a warm place for 3 to 4 hours.
Pour spoonfuls of the batter into the greased idli moulds and steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes or till they are done.
Serve hot with corn sambhar.
