Mothers who are busy with motherhood, and other duties that come along with it, often turn a blind eye to the condition of their hair.
It is said that your hair is the crown of your head. Should you not treat your hair like a precious ornament then? Yes, you should. You need to understand that, more often than not, it is the environmental factors that affect your hair postpartum.

1. Temperature variations
The weather and overall climatic conditions keep changing rapidly in a country like India. It is difficult to draw out a proper routine for your hair to match all weather patterns. Temperature variations can at times be highly damaging to your hair.
2. Desalinated water
Desalination is the process of removal of all salts and minerals from the water. This process leads to the water losing its original composition. Washing your hair with such water not only deprives them of the advantages of normal water, but may also have a damaging effect on your hair.
Strong and harsh rays of the sun are damaging to our skin and hence, we take all precautionary measures to avoid this. However, we do not follow the same with our hair. Postpartum, your body is recovering and needs all its strength to work on various aspects of your metabolism. Going out when the sun is at its peak can deprive your hair of its suppleness and quality, resulting in dry, dull and brittle hair.
Many of us stay in regions where the air is hot and humid, which makes our hair greasy and frizzy. In such cases, you can prevent damage to your hair by avoiding direct exposure to sunlight or by using a scarf when outdoors.
5. Vegetables and fruits
Sometimes, things may not be what we think them to be. Fruits and veggies are often tampered with or adulterated to earn quick profits. Customers get attracted to shiny and fresh-looking fruits and vegetables, while actually ignoring the healthy lot. It’s better to go organic when it comes to fruits and vegetables, as the presence of pesticides and other such chemicals cause damage to your overall health, including that your hair.
6. Silica in the air
Silica has the same effects as calcium on your hair. It weighs your hair down and makes it feel dry. It can also cause the occurrence of dandruff-like symptoms such as flaking and may cause your hair to fall out. Therefore, it becomes essential to ensure that the atmosphere around you is ideal and chemical-free.
Excessive pollution causes damage to your hair, and this is explicitly visible. Air pollution is one of the major environmental factors that lead to the loss of suppleness and strength from your hair. Pollution makes your hair dry and weak, thus causing it to fall out from their follicles.
Environmental factors are not in our control and hence, the best we can do is take preventive measures. Oiling your hair and washing it regularly helps rejuvenate and relax your hair. Oil nourishes your hair and strengthens your roots. It also moisturizes your scalp. It is normal to go through hair loss postpartum, but if it is too much, then make sure that you visit your doctor for advice.
