One relationship that doesn’t change even after you get married and move halfway across the world is your relationship with your mother. Even if you are a mum now, you are still a child to her and now is when you would still love for her to treat you like one because you miss it. She’ll always be your rock, and the one you go to at your highest and lowest times.
If you’re missing your mum, or just want to reminiscence the good old days with her, here are a just a few lines from mums that can make your day.
1. “Did you eat?”
In most cases, mothers are the reason a family has food on their table. They even have the task of feeding a couple of hungry kids at home, including the husband. She puts your family’s needs before yours and sometimes forgets to keep herself healthy. This is probably why every time you speak with her on the phone, she will always ask you, “Did you eat?”. It becomes a habit with her and the words are probably your best comfort after a long day.
2. “How was your day?”
This question can have you spilling the most minute details of your day to your one and only confidant – your mum. You know that there’s no chance of her judging you or your decisions, and she’s the only person that can give you the most sincere advice with your best interests at heart. Whether it’s your work life or just simple problems at home, she’s the one you hold nothing back from.
3. “When will you come home?”
When you used to live with her, this was just to make sure you kept track of your curfew and didn’t stay out too late. Or it was probably to ask whether she should make dinner for you.
Now, it’s simply because she misses you and counts down the days till she gets to see you again. No one understands how hectic being a wife and a mother is better than her, and it makes you feel special to know that you have one person waiting for you to get home!
4. “I’m proud of you.”
You would have heard these words a tonne of times at your workplace or from your husband, but the feeling you get when you hear it from your mum is invaluable. It gives you an indescribable happiness to know that you’ve done all that you can to make her happy, and she acknowledges your effort. You could be having the worst day, but this line from your mother is enough to lift your spirits straight out from the dump.
5. “I love you.”
When she says this, you know for sure that there is no one on this planet who loves you more. You will be reminded that no matter how low or unworthy you feel, you are always loved and you will always have a place to call home. You have your mum by your side and your presence is enough for her. She wouldn’t care about your paycheck or your achievements, as the time you spend with her is what she craves the most. Nothing can give you the same level of comfort as hearing these lines from your mother.
If you’re reading this and have realised that you haven’t spoken to your mother in a while, pick up the phone and give her a quick buzz. Always make time for that one superwoman in your life who would give anything to see you smile.
