We’ve seen this happen too often – we have kids, we start focusing on securing a future for them and start working towards it. What we don’t realize is that this often means that our partners take a back seat during the process. Although our love for them does not wane, they become lesser of a priority when compared to our kids. So, although it is difficult to make time from your busy schedule, we recommend that you tell your partner you appreciate their efforts and that you cherish them. Here are a few ways in which you can make your partner feel special:
1. Compliment Them
If they’re wearing a new outfit, compliment them. Tell them they look nice, and that you appreciate the effort they’ve put into their look.
2. Thank Them
If they’ve done something for you (which we’re sure they have), then make the effort to tell them you are thankful for what they did, and also for their existence.
3. Encourage Them
This is really simple. If your partner is scared or jittery about following their dreams, your encouragement might mean the difference between them doing it and not. So tell them that you’ll stand by them, no matter what.
4. Be Their Soundboard
Sometimes even being a lending ear can mean the world to someone who just wants to speak their heart. So be there for them. Listen patiently and interrupt only when you want to console them or tell them it’s going to be okay.
5. Encourage Them To Care For Themselves
Your partner might sometimes be so caught up with work, taking care of the baby or their other work that they start neglecting their own selves. Be it putting on weight or being too stressed out, you need to tell them that self care is essential, and that they need to take care of themselves in order to take care of others.
6. Surprise Them!
This might be obvious, but if you know your partner and you have drifted apart, then surprise them – with a gift, or a gesture, or a holiday for just the two of you. Let them know that you’re still thinking about them and that you still care very much.
