7 Pieces of Pregnancy Advice You Should Ignore

Pregnancy is a wonderful time for most women, though it also comes with a lot of pain and sleepless nights. We always try to do these little things that make pregnancy easier for us. Whether it is sneaking in that little piece of chocolate, a little nap on the way to work or that extra piece of chicken, we try to find joy from the little things in life. But we all know that there’s always going to be people who try to bring us down when we are happy – that’s just how life is. Here are some of the most common pieces of pregnancy advice that you should definitely ignore. 

1. Don’t drink coffee

Although it’s true that too much caffeine is not good for your baby, one cup of coffee a day will not harm you. As long as you are staying in the limits when it comes to drinking coffee, it will not be a problem. So, go ahead and treat yourself to the occasional cup of coffee – don’t let anyone stop you.

2. Don’t sleep too much

Pregnancy is a time when you need to be looking after your health by eating nutritious food, working out regularly and getting enough sleep. It is most important to listen to your body. Your body is working super hard during your pregnancy and this will make you feel tired. If you are feeling tired and you feel like sleeping, then you should catch up on your sleep. Your body will thank you later.

3. Don’t wear heels

Every woman is different and every pregnancy is different. It is only natural that your clothing preferences will also vary. Wearing stilettos while pregnant does sound scary to a lot of people. But there is nothing wrong with wearing them on special occasions as long as you know that you will not lose balance. On normal days, most pregnant women do opt for flats anyway. So, if you feel like dressing up once in a while, slipping on those sexy stilettos, don’t hesitate.

4. Your social life is over

People may tell you that once you get pregnant, your social life is over. This does not have to be true. You can, in fact, make more friends and be more social if you want to. Even if none of your friends or family is pregnant, you can find expectant moms everywhere around. All you have to do is step out to a mom community near you. Call them home for lunch or go out shopping together. Watch a movie with them or try out that fancy new restaurant. Pregnancy can be enjoyable if you decide you want to have fun.

5. You shouldn’t be eating that

It sure does get annoying when people tell you what you should and should not eat. Of course, too much of fatty food and sour candy is not good for you – it isn’t good for you when you are not pregnant either. With that being said, you don’t have to completely avoid it. It is okay to indulge in chocolates, cheese, and sour cream in moderation. You don’t have to cut it out completely unless your doctor specifically asked you to.

6. Don’t have sex

What happens in your bedroom should not be anybody else’s business. If you want to bang, bang away. Everyone has different needs during their pregnancies. While some women would much rather be left alone during their pregnancy, others would prefer to keep banging till the final trimester. Don’t let them tell you can’t – the choice is left to you and your partner.

7. Give up your career

This is again, a matter of choice. After having a baby, few mothers may decide to stay at home and look after their children for the rest of their lives. Others may pause their work for a while – say a year – and then resume their career with as much fire as they had before their pregnancy. Whatever you decide to do is the best choice for you and your family – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you feel like your family needs that extra income, you could continue to work. If you want to work simply because you like working, then go for it. If you would prefer being a full-time stay-at-home mom, then so be it. Do whatever makes you happy and don’t let anyone judge you.
