Hemoglobin is a type of protein which is rich in iron and it flows in our blood. This is what supplies oxygen throughout our entire body and make it active and functional. Its key function is to transport oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body. It also carries the carbon dioxide from the other parts of the body back to the lungs.
A good hemoglobin content in the body is a must for a healthy lifestyle, therefore it is necessary to maintain them in your blood.
Here’s how you can increase the levels of hemoglobin in your body:
1. Iron-rich food
Iron is the most important component of your blood. Therefore consuming food rich in iron can help you balance the hemoglobin levels in your blood. Eat green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek, coriander etc.
Beetroots, eggs, chicken, eggs, apples, pomegranate, asparagus are rich in proteins and iron too. You could also eat amla (gooseberry), jaggery, almonds, and raisins.
Consuming vitamin-C with iron is better so that it is easy for your blood to absorb the essential nutrients. So, eat food rich in vitamin C like citrus fruits, papaya, peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli.
3. Folic acid
It is a B-complex vitamin which is made up of RBC’s (red blood corpuscles). If you have low folic acid levels in your body, you’ll end up having low levels of hemoglobin in your body.
To counter this, you should eat sprouts, sun-dried beans, peanuts, broccoli, banana, green leafy veggies and chicken liver.
4. Blackstrap molasses
This is a traditional remedy which helps in fighting against anemia and increases the hemoglobin levels. It contains iron and folic which helps in promoting the growth of RBC’s.
To make this:
1.Mix 2tsp of blackstrap molasses and apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of water.
2. Drink this solution every day to keep up the levels.
5. Avoid food that blocks your iron supply
Avoid eating food that blocks the passageways for iron absorption. If you have low levels of hemoglobin already, you should probably stop drinking your sugary treats like cola, coffee, tea, and beer.
