When you’ve newly become a mom, you need to make a choice between breastfeeding your child or bottle-feeding. While we respect your choice for the same, this post is for those moms who want to breastfeed, but find it difficult because of their naturally low supply of breastmilk.
Of course, there are a lot of things you can do – you can eat foods that help increase your breastmilk, and there are other lifestyle changes you can adopt, but if nothing is working out for you, then do read on. Something in this list might just work for you!
1. Water, and then some more water
As it is, you must get in your normal minimum requirement of water in. And if you’re running low on your breastmilk supply, you pretty much have to make sure you get in the required amount in, maybe even extra on certain occasions – like when you have coffee or alcohol (basically anything that can leave you a little dehydrated). You’ll also need the extra water for when you do any sort of physical activity that would make you lose water.
2. Don’t worry too much about your weight
Each woman has a different body – which means each woman will take different amounts of time to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight. Don’t stress about not getting your original bodies back immediately! Of course, you’d know that breastfeeding helps burn belly fat, but also, if you’re supplying lesser milk, then you’ll also burn lesser.
Just keep in mind that with some healthy eating and smart exercising, you just might be able to get back to your original shape. Your weight isn’t going to go away on its own, but being too harsh on yourself also won’t help. If you’re still not losing weight after breastfeeding as much as you can, then you’ve just got to be patient and try out other methods like these.
3. Find the right food booster for you
There might be loads of foods and beverages that would supplement your breastmilk. Find the right one for yourself, rather than going for something that works for someone else. Try a few different ones and come to a conclusion yourself, and see what gives you the best results. Here are a few foods that have been known to boost your breastmilk production.
4. Take time out for yourself
Keep some time aside for yourself where you can relax and kick back. Often, stress causes your production to drop. For moms who already naturally have a low supply, it becomes important to keep away things like stress which might affect you more. Doing something that soothes you, like meditating, or yoga, or jogging will go a long way in keeping you sane and healthy.
